Technical Director - Mechanical

Up to £85000 per annum Package

Technical Director Mechanical - London - to £85,000 Package Autonomy & Flexible Working

Looking for a new opportunity with a genuinely nice company?

All too often we hear of hard-working individuals being absolutely pushed to their limits by businesses that are purely self-serving, with no regard for the employee.

We can offer an exciting opportunity to work with good people, and an honest and genuine leadership team with the vision and desire to drive their business forward, along with the financial resources in place that will make your career journey both professionally and financially rewarding.

They offer a relaxed working environment, a fantastic benefits package, one of the best levels of staff retention in the industry and most importantly, an established and successful Graduate & Apprentice development programme.

Their success has been built off the quality of their staff, the standard of the work they produce and service they provide their clients. Subsequently they have been able to attract some of the best Engineers from leading consultancies such as Arup, Ramboll, Hoare Lea and Buro Happold, amongst others.

The successful Technical Director would be asked to maintain working level contacts both inside and outside the business to generate new business opportunities and secure workload. You will be involved in fee bids, resource planning, team management.

However, as a medium sized MEP and Sustainability Consultancy, you'll still be able to maintain a hands-on role when it comes to do design and project delivery.

Established over a decade ago, the founding partners of this Sustainability and MEP Design Consultancy remain hands on. They are involved in every aspect of the business from recruiting to design, carrying out specialist surveys, maintaining client relationships and employee engagement.

With circa 75 employees and multiple offices located across the UK, you'll get to work on a fascinating range of projects including listed buildings, net zero carbon masterplans, research labs, landmark hotels, and high-rise mixed-use developments.

With M&E at the heart of the business and not just a small support function to a larger multi-disciplinary offering the Directors really understand the complexity of projects they bid on. That's why their fees allow their engineers to produce quality design and why they're not afraid to take projects from RIBA Stage 1 to 5.

Having already secured much of their fee income for 2024, they are looking for an additional Technical Director who can assist in leading and building the business and drive the consultancy forward.

Duties include -

  • Leading and developing the London office and maintaining a reputation for providing a high-quality service to their clients.
  • Business and financial planning
  • Effective resource planning and workload management
  • Marketing and business development to ensure a pipeline of opportunities
  • Technical delivery of reports, design, drawings, etc. in line with agreed standards
  • Recruitment and retention of excellent staff

If you'd like to join a practice that are all about excellence and flexibility, then please get in touch.

Principal Electrical Engineer

£65000 - £75000 per annum Clear path to Principal

Principal Electrical Design Engineer - To £75K Clear path to Principal No minimum number of days in the office.

If you're tired of being a small cog in a wheel and would like to join a Building Services Consultancy that can offer you autonomy and a clear path to Director, then please read on.

Established just after the GFC in 2009, this MEP Design and Sustainability Consultancy has stood the test of time. They are still a hugely successful, independently owned consultancy that secure all their projects directly from high profile architects or developers.

Their two founding Directors (both are CEng and MCIBSE) remain hands on and ensure every project they undertake meets or exceeds their clients' expectations. And they also ensure that every employee has a voice and can make suggestions on how to further improve their practice, standards, or the quality of what they deliver.

Collaborating with their Electrical Associate (who will be retiring this year) you'll be the lead Electrical Engineer and be responsible for designing, leading, managing and delivering projects. Current projects range from 100,000 sq. foot offices, major decarbonisation projects on behalf of global investment banks, and 5-star hotels across London.

With around 15 MEP Design Engineers they are large enough to compete against the larger multi-disciplinary consultancies, yet small enough to provide that extra level or service and attention to detail.

Working closely with the founding directors you will be required to lead your own projects from the initial briefing right through, concept and detailed design, to hand over. You'll be required to attend meetings with clients and help bring their ideas to life and help future proof their buildings.

Offering an unblocked and clear path to Associate within a year, this opportunity is likely to appeal to a Principal Electrical Engineer that enjoys being hands on and liaising with architects.

You'll benefit from a flexible hybrid working arrangement (no minimum days after probation, just, "as and when is required"), 25 days leave, flexible working hours, BUPA, an annual bonus, and an employee share ownership incentive.

Key Requirements

  • Track record in developing designs and projects from the initial stages through to completion.
  • Familiar with producing bid documents and reports, specifications, drawings and validating and approving the quality of contractor's electrical installations.
  • At least seven years' experience as an Electrical Design Engineer, working within the built environment (ideally in a multi-disciplinary or building services consultancy).
  • Willingness to help mentor and manage, a small, but growing team of Electrical Engineers.

Electrical Design Engineer

£45000 - £55000 per annum Package

Electrical Design Engineer - London - To £55K Package

If you're an Electrical Design Engineer looking to join a small consultancy, but still want to work on large and iconic projects, then this role is for you.

Reporting to their chartered, Electrical Associate Director, you'll benefit from being involved in projects from inception to construction. You'll be given as much autonomy as you desire, and the opportunity of just cracking on with projects and leading them from feasibility, concept design, detail design and construction.

Their current portfolio includes hospitals, commercial offices, listed buildings, MoD training grounds, luxury hotels, theatres and cinemas and a framework with the Royal Household.

You'll be joining a close knit, supportive and friendly team of engineers who socialise weekly, and attend a monthly catch-up breakfast at the end of each month. They go away together every year for a long weekend and the Directors genuinely care about the mental health and well-being and professional development of every employee.

They recognise and reward hard work and provide two yearly bonuses, plus 25 days leave, pension, hybrid working (two to three days a week in the office as required) payment of professional memberships and the opportunity to undertake a MSc or further training.

Please note, this Electrical Design Engineer opportunity is with a Building Services Consultancy based in London and previous relevant experience is essential.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll work on mixture of projects such as schools, listed buildings, science and research facilities, universities and commercial offices.

Rather than only getting involved in RIBA Stage 2 to 3, you'll see projects all the way through to post occupancy, which will ensure you understand how buildings operate when in use, rather than just in the design stage.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you'll become a key part of an engineering led, consultancy that is at the forefront of low carbon building design, and employee retention.

You'll enjoy a hybrid role, typically two to three days a week in the office and an unmatched level of autonomy, flexibility and trust.

Ideally, they would like someone with at least four years' experience in Electrical Design, who is familiar with Revit.
