Sustainability Consultant (Embodied Carbon / Whole Life Carbon Assessments) To £45K Package

With a PhD and MSc in Energy and a genuine passion for addressing the Energy Performance Gap, the Director of Sustainability knows a thing or two about Embodied Carbon and Whole Life Carbon Assessments!

They are also a guest lecturer at the AA (Architectural Association School of Architecture) and have actively been contributing to decarbonising the built environment for over two decades.

Reporting to the Director of Sustainability you'll receive ongoing support and mentoring and enjoy a diverse role, as you work on a fascinating range of projects such as masterplans, low energy schools, listed building refurbishment and true, net zero carbon mixed use developments.

As a Sustainability Consultant / Sustainability Engineer you'll assist with the following.

  • IES Modelling for both Building Performance Engineering and Part L Compliance
  • Embodied Carbon / Whole Life Carbon Assessments
  • Providing support and input to the design engineers on how projects can achieve their desired BREEAM, LEED, Passivhaus or Nabers ratings.
  • Undertaking R&D activities to continue to drive innovation; and minimise the environmental impact of buildings.
  • Undertake R&D into new technologies, software or methods of construction such as prefabricated design or Digital Twin technologies.

You'll also work very closely with the inhouse team of Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health Engineers and the BIM and Revit Technicians, which will allow you to continue to develop your understanding of all elements of the built environment.

The former is a well-known Aussie TV show and the later measures the energy efficiency, water usage, waste management and indoor environment quality of a building and its environmental impact.

Anyway, if you're familiar with One Click LCA, have a genuine passion in helping to create low or zero carbon buildings and have experience in Daylight modelling (using IES); you're going to love working here.

Working closely with the Director of Sustainable design and Environmental Engineering you'll enjoy a fast-paced role. You'll advise clients, developers and investors on Buildings Life-Cycle Assessments, Embodied Carbon, Operational Carbon and help champion Low or Zero Carbon design and see projects from concept to POE's.

Rather than being a small cog in a big wheel, you'll be a big small in a small wheel as this hugely successful start-up is all about becoming better and bigger, not just bigger.

You'll use your holistic understanding of buildings, master planning, building physics and environmental assessments methods (BREEAM, Well, SKA, Greenstar or Nabers) and work closely with the M&E Design Engineers to help design and deliver exemplary buildings.

  • Must have LCA (Life cycle Analysis / Life Cycle Assessment) experience in estimating embodied carbon.

I'm looking for an Electrical Associate Director for a well known and well respected global engineering consultancy. Reporting to a Board Director, you use all your experience in electrical design, team management and project management to deliver projects in a sustainable, effective, and collaborative way.

The Opportunity
As an Electrical Associate you'll join a fast paced, well established, yet rapidly growing business that has over 2000 staff and operates from the UK, Europe, SE Asia, and the Middle East. This role is an ideal steppingstone to Director level position within two to three years as the current Electrical Director will be retiring then.

The Role
Working within the commercial, hotel and mixed-use sectors you'll continue to build relationships with clients, contractors, and colleagues. You'll enjoy a hands-on role and be involved in projects from feasibility, planning, estimating, installation, managing technical documents to final handover.

Key Duties
· Understand other disciplines such as Mechanical, BMS, Public Health and how they will influence the project.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll initially assist with the design and delivery of a high spec, 100,000 square foot commercial office in London. Once that's done, you'll then get involved in a range of hotel, mixed-use, education and residential projects; which will include both new builds and refurbishment projects.

They allow flexible working times and do support home working and are currently operating a three, two split between working from the office and working from home.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll use a range of software such as Hevacomp or IES to carry out Duct sizing/pipe sizing/plant sizing/CWS/HWS/Heating and Chilled water calculations and also assisting with thermal modelling. You'll also use your knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit to check the drawings produced by the CAD / Revit team and use Bluebeam to do mark ups.

Supported by a Chartered Mechanical Associate or Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will act as the Lead Mechanical Engineer on projects.

Key elements of this role will involve;

  • Producing calculations, specifications, schedules and approving drawings.
  • Leading client and design team meetings.
  • Producing Stage 2 reports.
  • Developing the detailed design strategy.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports.
  • Agree any variations or additional fees.
  • Overseeing the contractors' installations once the project gets to site.

You'll design design highly resilient electrical services on a range of £5M to £75M projects; and enjoy working on these complex projects from feasibility, concept, detail design to handover.


  • Producing concept, preliminary and detailed designs according to the specific project requirements.
  • Produce sketches and details that reflect the design calculations

This role will suit an experienced Mechanical Director who is already generating at last £250K in fees; however, they are also happy to consider an Associate Director who is ready to progress their career and step into their first dedicated, Director level role.

Supported and backed by their two founding Partners; you'll have full autonomy to develop the Mechanical team and the London office. This will include developing the Associate, Principal and Senior level engineers and further developing existing relationships with signature architects.

Having recently moved into a larger, state of the art office they are serious about growing and have ambitious plans to triple in size to 200 staff over the next five years. They already have a secure order book full of interesting projects including masterplans and regeneration schemes, universities, commercial offices, listed buildings, science and research buildings and healthcare projects.
