Job Description

Principal Electrical Engineer - (Building Services) To £60K Package

I'm partnering with a well-known specialist Building Services consultancy to find them a commercially aware, degree qualified Principal Electrical Engineer for their Oxford office.

Working closely with end user clients across the technology, financial services and leisure sectors you'll be responsible for projects from conception to completion. Key duties will include fee submissions, feasibility studies, concept and detailed design, design management, coordination of MEP services with other disciplines, cost-control and also assisting with forward planning to meet the expansion plans.

Whilst you will have a bias towards an electrical engineering discipline you must be capable of acting as lead-designer in managing a multidisciplinary design team including architects and structural engineers through the whole lifecycle of a project.

As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you'll oversee and manage other members of the project design team, including subcontractor and ensure accuracy, quality and consistency of the designs.

Key Tasks

  • Development of concept and scheme designs.
  • Present and justify proposed MEP solutions to client teams, ensuring they comply with British standards.
  • Design development through the whole project lifecycle from project briefing through to implementation.
  • Design and specify a range of Electrical building services solutions including equipment, facilities, components and products.
  • Provide a technical audit of the deliverables produced by the electrical team.
  • Review and then approved schedules, specifications, calculations or drawing produced by the design office.
  • Design management of multidisciplinary project design team through the whole project life-cycle.
  • Continue to maintain exceptional service levels to both with existing and new clients.
  • Development of fee proposals and financial management of projects through the whole project life-cycle.
  • Mentoring and development of the Electrical team.

    Essentially engineering solutions that work towards optimising client's portfolios. A strategic service offering that involves overseeing building performance evaluations, analysing data, and implementing optimisation strategies through design to enhance energy efficiency.

    Remuneration:

    • Salary £72,000

    What you'll do in the traditional sense:

    • Carry out full detailed design RIBA stages 0-7
    • Client advisory directly with end user clients
    • Project management & coordination with other engineering and real estate disciplines
    • Prepare specifications, reports, design drawings and budget costs to programmes
    • Peer review and overseeing external consultant designs
    • Client/Project management
    • Able to liaise with Project surveyors, property surveyors and building managers at all levels to understand project, requirements, deliverables, and scope of service required.
    • Able to produce or input into RIBA stage 1,2,3 deliverables and able to project manage delivery of EDC scope across all RIBA stages (including managing detailed design output, monitoring contract progress and handover of works)

    What you'll do in relation to Decarbonisation and Net Zero:

    • Identify and propose design interventions that will reduce energy consumption and improve performance of buildings
    • Able to assess the performance of operational buildings and identify potential net zero strategies or low carbon pathways for improvement of the buildings.
    • Able to produce or review Enhanced EPC's or modelling output to identify the correct upgrade path for the building to meet budget or performance criteria.
    • Attending sites to survey buildings to obtain information for thermal modelling specialists
    • Complete technical feasibility studies for sustainable design interventions. Collaborate and coordinate with other consultants
    • Manage specialist modelling consultants and collaborate with the wider team of consultants to generate the report deliverables
    • Present proposals to clients and external project team members
    • Develop design to implement proposed interventions

    In Addition to the Design requirements above, the suitable candidate would ideally have the following engineering decarbonisation experience - This is a wish list, so not all essential but gives an idea of the additional skills you could learn in the role:

    • Have a passion to take action to address climate change
    • Competent producing reports and technical studies
    • Heat pump and decarbonised/electrified heating strategy design experience
    • Refurbishment project experience
    • Have an understanding of EPC and CIBSE TM54 modelling methodology
    • Understanding of and experience on Net Zero carbon projects
    • Understanding and project experience with BREEAM assessments
    • Experience working on NABERS DFP projects or NABERS Energy
    • Experience with IES and/or TAS thermal modelling software. Understanding of inputs required
    • Low energy design expertise
    • Energy network experience
