Job Description

Senior Building Physics Engineer - To £60K Package Hybrid Working

Due to the recent retirement of their previous Head of Energy and Sustainability, this Building Services Engineering Consultancy are looking for a Senior Building Physics Engineer.

Ideally, you'll already be a Low Carbon Energy Assessor (Level 5 EPC Accredited, using IES) and currently working as a Senior Building Physics Engineer. However, they are also happy to consider someone who can step up into this role.

As a Building Physics Engineer, you'll help demystify science-based targets and their role in net zero strategies, and assist in the production of energy strategies, on both a building and a master planning level.

You'll be involved in a diverse range of projects across the education, commercial, leisure, hospitality, and residential sectors. You'll use IESVe or IES Apache HVAC to model the use of district energy systems and a range of innovative low-carbon and renewable technologies to ensure the buildings or developments become true, Net Zero Carbon Buildings.

You'll enjoy these projects all the way through from feasibility to post occupancy. You'll have direct access to the founding partners and enjoy working in a relaxed, yet professional working atmosphere.

Key aspects of your role will involve:

  • Writing energy statements to satisfy the London Plan requirements.
  • Part L analysis and building performance engineering / dynamic thermal modelling.
  • Modelling of heat transfer, moisture, condensation risk and air velocity.
  • Ensuring all buildings maintain a good IAQ during use.
  • Helping clients understand what their buildings need to achieve to meet BREEAM, WELL, Nabers, Passivhaus or LEED standards.
  • Using IES to evidence heating, cooling, and building loads.
  • Producing natural ventilation, daylight, and sunlight calculations
  • Using CIBSE TM54 to evaluate operational energy use accurately at the design stage of a project.
  • Promoting a circular economy and the re-use of existing materials into refurbishment projects.
  • Maintaining good working relationships with architects, end user clients, project managers and specialist external consultants (i.e., Structural Engineers, Environmental Engineers etc)

In addition to a salary of up to £60K, they offer 25 days leave, flexible working hours, hybrid working options, 5% pension, support / payment to undertake additional training and a discretionary annual bonus.
