Looking for more of a client-side role? Ever considered moving away from traditional consultancy into a commercial real estate advisor and working directly with clients?

Rather than just working as an external consultant for clients here you will be seen as a trusted advisor and get to work directly with the end user client. Rather than just working on a single building at a time, working for a commercial real estate advisor will allow you to have an influence on 100's of buildings on behalf of a client.

With an office and presence, in every major city across the UK, they utilise this extensive knowledge network and work as a trusted advisor to the majority of the FTSE 500. Some of their current projects involve doing the EPC's for landmark buildings such as the Shard, the Walkie Talkie and the Leadenhall Building.

As a Senior Energy Engineer (Energy Consultant / Building Physics) you'll work as part of a dedicated ESG Team, which is currently 60 individuals. This ESG team are very much front and centre of the business, rather than being a support division of another team and have ambitious plans to double in size over the next five years.

Working closely with property investors, occupiers, and fund managers you'll enjoy a diverse role consisting of preparing EPCs for complex buildings and advising clients on what they need to do in order for their buildings to achieve Net Zero Carbon.

You'll use IESVE to model buildings and help blue chip clients with the acquisition, management and divestment of their property portfolios. This will include working closely with the inhouse MEP Engineers to ensure these buildings reduce their operational energy and carbon and continue to operate as efficiently as possible.

You'll act able to act as a point of contact for clients, collaborate effectively with a range of colleagues and engage with other stakeholders. You'll be responsible for preparing EPCs (primarily DSM, using IES) and provide expert advice which identify risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies for clients' portfolios.

This will allow you to develop a true appreciation of whole life cycle of a building essentially setting you apart from your peers and future proofing your career as a Sustainability Consultant.

In addition to developing your skills in Level 5 EPC's (using IESVe) you'll also be supported by the Associate Director to develop new skills in MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards), and a range of environmental benchmarking systems such as Nabers, Well, BREEAM and LEED.

Requirements

  • Expert user of IESVe and ideally previous experience carrying out Dynamic Simulation Modelling.
  • Previous experience working on existing buildings.
  • Good understanding of Building Services eg plant, AHU's thermal comfort, lighting, daylighting, &
  • Comfortable liaising with clients, property managers, tenants and external specialist consultants.
  • Understanding of, or at least a keen interest in of operational energy certification, such as NABERS.

    As a Mechanical (Building Services) Design and Sustainability Engineer, you'll benefit from a hybrid working week. This will include working from the office, working from home, and site-based duties as you enjoy a varied role of HVAC Design, Energy Efficiency and Project Management.

    Detailed duties

    • Energy audits
      • Undertake energy audits across a range of building types.
      • Report on current energy use, occupancy levels and building use.
      • For each building, propose an energy reduction solution that is fit for purpose.
      • Collect and analyse data and then produce reports.
      • Provide a few options for clients that demonstrates the pay backs in terms of potential energy savings for a few different options.
      • Provide clients with a clear return on investment calculation, allowing them to make an informed decision.

    • HVAC Design
      • Meet with clients to understand their challenges and requirements.
      • Produce a bespoke, commercial technical proposal for each client (that includes the cost to do the design and installation by their in-house Projects Team).
      • Liaise with clients all the way through the project, keep them informed of the progress, possible risks, or possible delays.
      • Present proposals to new clients and secure repeat business.
      • Carry out QA checks of the work (I.e. design, proposals) produced by less experienced members of the inhouse design team.

    • HVAC commissioning and onsite design review
      • Attend site and verify key parameters such as air volume, temperature, humidity, and air velocity.
      • Balance air flows and pressures within systems to achieve the desired and agreed environmental design criteria.
      • Assist the BMS Engineers with creating the optimal BMS Control strategy for each building.
      • Carry out measurement and verification to ensure the predicted savings have been achieved.

    • CPD

    • Attend regular training courses ensure you stay abreast of emerging technologies or new software or trends.
    • Maintain a register of all CPD you complete with the aim of becoming a CEng with CIBSE or the IMechE.

    I have a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join an international, MEP Design and Sustainability Consultancy based in London.

    Established over a decade ago, they are widely regarded as a leader in ESD / Green Building Design and launched a new London office in 2024, which has been a phenomenal success so far.

    Working with (i.e. not just working for) their Electrical Director, you'll be responsible for leading meetings, leading projects, and also assisting with fee bids and resource planning. You will be fully supported in the role, but not micromanaged. You'll see projects through from feasibility, design, all the way through to construction and post occupancy.

    This role will appeal to a Senior Electrical Engineer who enjoys autonomy and wants to have a huge influence over the future direction and success of the Electrical team.

    As you develop your own network and contacts (realistically over the next 6 - 12 months) you'll develop your own reputation and relationships with architects, contractors, managing agents and end users.
