Job Description

MEP Project Manager (Design & Construct) – Pharmaceutical / Laboratories

Hertfordshire - To £75K & good benefits package

Reporting to the Building Services Project Director, you will initially take responsibility as a Design Lead, taking the brief and overseeing the early Design stage confirming a smooth transition into the Construction phase Co-ordinating and Managing the MEP Building Services packages.

You will demonstrate a previous experience in Mechanical (HVAC), Electrical (Building Services) or Public Health (Hot and Cold-Water Services, Medical Gasses, Purified Water, Steam etc) Design, ensuring the project you are responsible for is delivered within budget, on time and meets the Clients requirements.

There is flexibility as to where you work, either office based in Hertfordshire or site based typically twice a week where you will check the progress against the programme, check the quality of the Contractors installations and flag up any design issues to the MEP Design team and the Construction Managers.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Processing of change orders
  • Preparing and reviewing job cost reports
  • Submit drawings to necessary authorities for approvals.
  • Co-ordinate all functions of design and engineering departments to ensure timely completion of the project.
  • Resolving any challenges with Clients and Sub-Contractor
  • Ensuring an efficient hand over to the client.

You will ideally be professionally qualified with a Degree in Building Services, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Demonstrate a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in an Engineering, Design or Construction Environment. Holding a Project Management qualification such as Prince 2, APM or Agile would be advantageous.

An ability to produce a detailed Design, Construction and Commissioning programme.

Previous experience working on complex Life Science or Mission Critical type projects would be beneficial.

    I have a unique opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join an international, MEP Design and Sustainability Consultancy based in London.

    Established over a decade ago, they are widely regarded as a leader in ESD / Green Building Design and launched a new London office in 2024, which has been a phenomenal success so far.

    Working with (i.e. not just working for) their Electrical Director, you'll be responsible for leading meetings, leading projects, and also assisting with fee bids and resource planning. You will be fully supported in the role, but not micromanaged. You'll see projects through from feasibility, design, all the way through to construction and post occupancy.

    This role will appeal to a Senior Electrical Engineer who enjoys autonomy and wants to have a huge influence over the future direction and success of the Electrical team.

    As you develop your own network and contacts (realistically over the next 6 - 12 months) you'll develop your own reputation and relationships with architects, contractors, managing agents and end users.

    You'll be rewarded with a basic salary up to £65K, an annual bonus of up to 10%, 25 days annual leave a hybrid working policy.

    · 5 years' experience as an Electrical (Building Services) design engineer.
    · Previous experience working for a consultancy (ie Building Services, or multi-disciplinary)
