Mechanical Design Engineer ​- To £50K

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a keen interest in building services engineering, architecture and environmental design for a consultancy in South London.

The ideal mechanical design engineer will be committed to continued development, and be able to work independently on a variety of complex projects. ​

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site surveys and verify existing HVAC and public health services. ​
  • Redesign systems based on limited record information and restricted budgets. ​
  • Produce as-built layouts and formalise CAD drawings. ​
  • Perform engineering calculations to aid in system selection. ​
  • Coordinate utilities applications and manage upgrades to existing systems. ​
  • Communicate effectively with project architects and clients to meet changing requirements
  • Ensure compliance with engineering practices, CIBSE guidelines, British standards and regulations. ​

Current projects

  • CAT A and CAT B commercial office refurbishments, from initial survey to detail design
  • Production of as-built layouts
  • Carrying out surveys on existing buildings and providing improved services, and better coordination of utilities.
  • Design and selection of HVAC systems for industrial or warehouse projects.
  • Attend schools and carry out IAQ inspections and overheating assessments.

Skills and Competencies: ​

  • Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit MEP.
  • Good creative skills in Adobe Photoshop, SketchUp or Bluebeam.
  • Able to use IESVe (preferably IES Apache HVAC)
  • Able to bridge the gap between engineering, architecture and building physics.
  • Keen interest in digital engineering and automation and scripting.

This Sustainability and MEP consultancy are leaders in Passivhaus and NZC projects and have a secured pipeline of projects for the next 6 months.

Due to continued demand for their expertise in Low and Net Zero Carbon Design, they are looking for a Principal Building Physics Engineer to lead their Building Performance Engineering team.

Working alongside the Director of Sustainability, you'll be responsible for liaising with clients, architects and developers and essentially help bridge the gap between architecture, MEP services and sustainability.

This role will more than likely appeal to someone who is currently at a Senior Level, who is looking to essentially step up into a Principal role and lead the Building Physics team. This is a unique opportunity for a Building Physics expert to grow a team, help grow the business and have a clear path to equity within the next 12 months.

Essential Requirements:

  • Passionate believer in Passivhaus and able to use PHPP & Sketchup.
